Cancelled: Calling Out the Callers
THIS EVENT WILL BE RESCHEDULED
SURJ Greater Dayton is honored to collaborate with the Anti-Racist Taskforce of Miami Valley UUF to sponsor this workshop led by Bomani Moyenda. Bomani Moyenda organized Greene County residents to petition a case against Ronald Ritchie, who falsified claims leading to the murder of John Crawford III in the Beavercreek Walmart. Mr. Moyenda will describe that process with the intent for broad application.
This workshop will address the trend of white people calling the police on African Americans and other people of color for innocuous reasons or “existing while black.” It will also address the trend of white people verbally and physically abusing African Americans and other POC. We will discuss legal strategies of addressing these trends that can be used by any lay person as noted in the Ohio Revised Code of Law and can be used whether or not you were physically present during such an incident. Upon conclusion, you will be able to address any such incident that has occurred in Ohio. We will be researching the possibility of using these strategies in other states across the country as well.
Additionally, we will workshop alternatives to calling the police even in incidents of violence.
